Leading Editor Awards 2008

Awards for Excellence

The Leading Editor awards acknowledge the high commitment Editors have to their journals and reward their efforts to raise and maintain the standing of the journals.  In recognition of this work, we reward the following editors:

Richard Posthuma
University of Texas at El Paso, Texas, USA
International Journal of Conflict Management

Richard Posthuma has been the Editor of IJCMA only for a short time, and has already had a significant impact on the journal. Through his efforts, the journal has great copy flow, a variety of new and interesting authors publishing articles, as well as some promising special issues. Richard strives to put the journal first and is always willing to work exceptionally hard in order to achieve success.  Through his hard work, we are likely to see an improved ISI impact factor for 2008.

Marie McHugh
University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, UK
Leadership & Organization Development Journal

Marie McHugh has worked on LODJ for a number of years, and it now stands as one of Emerald’s most used journals, achieving over 300,000 article downloads per year. Marie has recently been appointed Vice-Chair of the British Academy of Management for 2008, which is testament to her hard work and profile in the field. LODJ will be applying for ISI status in 2008.

Yehuda Baruch
Norwich Business School, University of East Anglia, UK
formerly of Career Development International

Professor Yehuda Baruch served four years as Editor of Career Development International, during which time the journal’s standing in the academic community improved considerably. Professor Baruch succeeded in establishing productive links with the global careers community, and CDI now regularly attracts leading careers’ scholars from around the world. The journal sets the standard for providing detailed, high quality and developmental reviews in a timely manner. The average turnaround time from submission to responses to authors is about 30 days. The journal enjoys a good reputation and currently has a rejection rate of 70%. Professor Baruch was responsible for bringing together a committed EAB of leading figures in the careers field and he also established a longstanding relationship with the Careers Division of the “American Academy of Management” serving as its former Chair. Professor Baruch also serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of Emerald titles Personnel Review, Journal of Managerial Psychology and Equal Opportunities International.

Mohsen Bahmani-Oskooee
The University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, USA
Journal of Economic Studies

Since his appointment, Mohsen Bahmani-Oskooee has done an excellent job with the Journal of Economic Studies (JES). Upon taking over editorship, Mohsen has been extremely proactive in working with the publisher to build a more efficient submission process. This has reduced the overall time papers spend in the review process without compromising the strict double-blind peer review system the journal employs. Mohsen is also extremely committed to improving the quality of the journal. Submissions to the JES are extremely healthy, and as a result, the quality of articles and authors published in the 2007 volume has increased. This has lead to the JES being submitted to Thomson Scientific (ISI). Mohsen is extremely organized and he is active in his support and promotion of the journal. He responds quickly to initial submissions and to queries from both authors and colleagues at Emerald. Since becoming Editor, Mohsen has also updated and reinvigorated the Editorial Board. The journal now has an EAB which contains many key influencers in the field of Economics.

Barry Cooper and Philomena Leung
