Celebrating 50 years of impactful research

Discover 50 of the most impactful articles published by Emerald in its 50 years, as selected by our publishers

Bingley, United Kingdom, 9 January 2017 – Since 1967, Emerald Publishing has believed in nurturing fresh thinking and publishing research that drives broader outcomes and greater impact.  Over the years, we’ve helped thousands of people to translate theory into reality and champion the thinkers whose new – and specialist – ideas make a difference to the real world.  

To reflect this philosophy, our publishing experts have selected 50 articles published by Emerald over our 50-year history that have captured the imagination of the wider world and made a particularly powerful impact. And these highly prized and valuable articles have been made free for everyone to access during the whole of 2017.

Examples of some of the papers include a 1967 article appropriately titled ‘Brave New Business’ heralding the potential impact of computerization on the business world; 1973’s daring (and then highly controversial) ‘Sex in advertising: its relevance, use and effects’; a 1992 paper ‘World-wide Web: The Information Universe’ by Tim Berners-Lee highlighting the potential of what we now know as ‘the internet’, and a whole wealth more of historical and very much contemporary impactful research
