Traditional and Social Entrepreneurs: Can you Spot the Difference?

Emerald Group Publishing shares infographic and latest research into social entrepreneurship

Bingley, United Kingdom, 12 November 2015 – Does a traditional entrepreneur think and act in the same way as a social entrepreneur? New research from Emerald Group Publishing, global publisher linking research and practice to the benefit of society, reveals the answers.

To mark Global Entrepreneurship Week, 16-22 November, Emerald has produced an infographic inspired by the article ‘Personality trait differences between traditional and social entrepreneurs’ from Social Enterprise Journal.

In the article, the authors Rachael Smith from Teach First, London, with Robin Bell and Helen Watts from Worcester Business School, University of Worcester, UK, highlight the key differences between the two types of entrepreneur. For example traditional entrepreneurs tend to have higher levels of self-interest whereas social entrepreneurs are likely to display higher levels of risk taking.

Emerald is also offering complimentary access to a selection of its current research into social entrepreneurship. The topics covered include the relevance of cognitive social capital in entrepreneurs’ start-up phase, and social capital and the role of trust in entrepreneurial family businesses.
