Bingley, United Kingdom, 9 October 2015 – Emerald Group Publishing, global publisher linking research and practice to the benefit of society, has signed an agreement with the e-library of the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman, a unique service within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

This partnership has provided all Ministry of Health hospitals, health centers, nursing institutes and other health related institutions in Oman with access to articles that are included in the Emerald Health and Social Care eJournal collection.

Dr. Said Alghenaimi, Chairperson of the Ministry of Health electronic library task force, stated:  “The Ministry of Health eLibrary is an integral project that helps in bridging the informational gap between theory and practice. Equally, it helps  clinicians to keep abreast of  rapid developments within the healthcare industry.”

The Emerald journals contained within this database cover some of the key questions facing healthcare professionals across the world; and have helped the Ministry of Health work towards several of its strategic objectives, such as the development of education and training in health, and emphasizing the importance of health systems research. The collection contains titles of which 94% are indexed by Scopus, and research covers various topics such as: intellectual/learning disabilities; mental health; criminology and forensic practice; working with vulnerable groups; and management of services.

Samir M. El Hefnawy, Business Manager for the Middle East at Emerald, said: “The partnership between the Ministry of Health and Emerald provides the community of health professionals in Oman with access to the latest academic research on Healthcare Management and Social Care. In its constant efforts to spread high-quality scholarly resources in the Middle East and beyond, this agreement represents a unique service for the country and a milestone for Emerald.”

Shariq Mumtaz, Managing Director of the Eastern Hemisphere, comments: “This agreement has been the first of this type for Emerald in the Middle East and highlights Emerald’s commitment to providing research that can be applied in practice.”

Nazim Mohammedi, Sales Director at KnowledgeE, Emerald’s regional partner, explained:  “This is the first time  that a Ministry of Health in the region has reached such a stage whereby all health professionals have access to a wealth of information at their fingertips."

The Ministry of Health is responsible for ensuring the availability of health care to the people of Oman and is currently working towards the national health policy, which contains a series of very clear goals to benefit the population of the Sultanate.
