New Journal from Emerald Explores the Evolving Function of HR in Business

Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance edited by Professor Cary Cooper and Professor Paul Sparrow

United Kingdom, 23 May 2014 – Ask any business manager or owner what the responsibility of the HR department is and they are likely to think of recruitment, payroll, training or appraisals. Whilst these are core elements of the HR role, the new journal from global academic publisher, Emerald Group Publishing, explores a new way of looking at the function of HR as part of the wider business strategy, organization design and reputation. Acclaimed professors in the field, Cary Cooper and Paul Sparrow edit the latest HR offering from one of the leading Business & Management publishers.

The Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance, combines thought leadership and practical advice through a range of papers, varying from reviews, empirical studies and critiques of existing theory and practice.

Paul Sparrow said: “This unique combination of research and practice teaches us a lot about the structure of businesses and it can help HR professionals understand how they can make an impact across the wider business. Taking a broader perspective on organizational effectiveness enables HR managers identify the more telling interventions they need to make.

“HR practitioners are thinking more broadly, rather than taking the traditional siloed approach of the past and businesses need to respond to this. The Journal of Organizational Effectiveness: People and Performance fills that need for an accessible guide to topics that range from issues such as optimizing risks for business strategy through to designing organizations for sustainable effectiveness.”
