Emerald Welcomes Esteemed Editor for Health and Social Care Journal

Ethnicity and Inequalities in Health and Social Care will publish for a seventh year

United Kingdom- 16 April 2014- Global academic publisher, Emerald Group Publishing, is pleased to announce that Professor Theo Gavrielides has been appointed as the new Editor for the international peer-reviewed journal, Ethnicity and Inequalities in Health and Social Care (EIHSC).

Professor Gavrielides’ expertise as the Founder and Director of the international think-tank, Independent Academic Research Studies (IARS), is a welcome addition to the journal, which is now in its seventh year of publication. He is also the Co-Director of the Restorative Justice for All Institute and a Visiting Professor in Buckinghamshire New University, UK and Simon Fraser University, Canada.

Professor Gavrielides, said: “I am delighted to accept this appointment at such a critical point in time for health equality and human rights worldwide. The journal has a unique approach to addressing entrenched discrimination by engaging with practitioners and by encouraging academic dialogue and policy change from the bottom up. Achieving better outcomes for the most vulnerable users of health and social care services in an evidence based manner has always been my passion.”

The journal will retain its unique practical approach to promoting equality, inclusion and human rights in health and social care and is seeking submissions of research and practice-focused articles and case studies, which:

• explore what is currently known about discrimination and disadvantage with a particular focus on health and social care
• push the barriers of the equality discourse by identifying new avenues for practice and policy
• create bridges between policymakers, practitioners and researchers
• identify and understand the social determinants of health equity and practical interventions to overcome barriers

Recent special issues of the journal have focused on the prevention of suicide in minority groups and on gender and sexual minorities in healthcare.  The full table of contents for all issues can be found at

The journal is a hugely valuable source of information for researchers, academics, students, practitioners, managers, policy-makers, NHS Trusts and commissioning bodies, local authorities, social workers, psychologists, nurses, voluntary sector workers, service users and carers.  More information can be found at

Notes to the editor:

Published by Emerald Group Publishing, Ethnicity and Inequalities in Health and Social Care is one of 31 titles in the Health and Social Care eJournal collection
